For all property transactions, the buyer has to pay certain amount of stamp duty. You have also to pay registration charges, for registration of the agreement. The stamp duty rates and registration charges payable and they are determined by the respective state governments. You are required to pay the stamp duty before the execution of the document. Hence the refund laws also vary from state to state regarding stamp duty.

18. Separate applications should be filed for both if registration fees and stamp duty are paid together. Xerox copy of original currency should be submitted along with the registration fee application.
19. The applicant should come to the office automatically and lodge a response for the reply.
20. When to apply for a refund.
i. Within six months of purchasing the stamp (one day in advance).
21. The registration can only be applied for a refund only if the property has been canceled before taking the property.
22. If there is a Chief Minister's letter for filing a return application, the request for refund should be incomplete.
23. To make inquiries on the account of the applicant, a nationalized bank should be submitted along with the cancellation check in which IFC CARD NO ................ BANK ACCOUNT NO .............. NAME ......... These items should be included (No NRI Account Check) Passbook's Xerox or Bank Statement if no check is made.
24. Strong proof of what the stamp was purchased for should be presented along with the case.
25. When submitting the refund order application, the following copies should be submitted.
i. If the refund demand amount is less than five lakhs
a) Regarding unused stamps - one original copy
b) If stamping is used - original copy + two xerox copies.
ii. Refund claim if the amount is more than five million
a) Regarding unused stamps - one original copy + two xerox copies.
b) If stamping is used - original copy + two xerox copies.
iii. If the refund demand amount is more than twenty lakhs
a) Regarding unused stamps - one original copy + three xerox copies.
b) If stamping is used - original copy + three xerox copies.
